Campground Review
By Jack

Birmingham South Campground is
located, as the name would imply,
south of Birmingham, Alabama. Take
I-65 south to exit 242 and follow
the signs, and you will see that
it is actually in the suburb of
Pelham (222 Highway 33, Pelham,
AL 35124). This campground
was a KOA, and many of the locals
continue to refer to it as the KOA.

You
can see why the locals
still call the campground
the “KOA.”

It is a large campground with
paved roads and sites with a large
number of pull through sites available.
The sites seem to be generally level,
though we had to use levelers at
our site. The store has a good supply
of RV items as well as drinks, snacks
and some food.
The Birmingham South Campground
comes complete with free coffee,
free Wi-Fi, and free cable. By “free”
I mean that there is no extra charge
for these services. The Wi-Fi worked
reasonably well, though either it
or my computer was pretty slow at
times. I managed to get through
all of my e-mail so it was certainly
adequate. There were 17 cable channels
listed, but some of them did not
come in clearly. At several sites,
I noted the presence of a satellite
dish.
There is also a playground for
the young, or young at heart, a
pool and a picnic pavilion. All
of the employees were helpful and
quite friendly. There is certainly
plenty of southern hospitality.

The showers have lots of hot
water. They are cleaned daily and
are more than satisfactory.
We rented a car from Enterprise
and were picked up five minutes
after calling. At $18 per day plus
gas, that turned out to be a very
good deal.
The campground’s office hours
are generally from 8 am until 6
pm, though Sunday is a different
matter. I suggest checking on the
hours upon arrival. You can send
them an e-mail at: bscampground@aol.com
and make reservations by calling
800-772-8832.
This campground rates a “definitely
would return” on the Kean meter.
Happy camping.
