Here's Your RV Maintenance Schedule

Trailers and Towables

  • Winterize the waterlines to prevent freezing during winter storage. Drain all lines and water tanks. Flush waste tanks, make sure all are shut off and closed down.
  • Have axle bearings checked about every 6 mo. or based on mileage, according to your owner's manual.
  • Service the air conditioning, heating, water heater and refrigerator units to make sure systems are all functioning properly. If shutting down for long periods, other precautions may be necessary to prevent damage.
  • Remember that some parts continue to utilize their "life-span" even when not being used. Have all systems checked by a qualified technician at least once a year.

Class A and C units

  • Winterize the waterlines to prevent freezing during winter months during storage. Drain all lines and water tanks. Flush waste tanks, making sure all are shut off and closed down.
  • Winterize the engine by checking the levels of antifreeze and fluids.
  • Have full system checks done at least annually. A 27-point inspection will include the coach and chassis, brakes, lights, tires, engine fluids, coach electrical systems, and LP, water, HVAC and refrigerator systems.
  • Oil changes on gas units every 3 months or 7,500 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Oil changes on diesel units every 3 months or 10,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  • Generator service is based on hours. Service it every 200-250 hours of use.
  • On all RVs, it is important to follow the instructions in your owner's manual to insure complete warranty coverage. Extreme weather conditions may require further service or preventive measures.
  • And remember: an ounce of prevention can be worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars.
