RVing to an Outlet Mall...
Bargain-Hunting Trip is a Fun Adventure

Photo: A Tanger Outlet Center in Nagshead, N.C.

Outlet mall shopping is a fun activity for many RVers. Outlet malls have large parking lots for navigating an RV, are usually located with easy access to interstates, have a variety of name-brand shops, and usually have prices RVing shoppers can't find anywhere else. Another advantage of outlet shopping with your RV is that you have lots of room to haul your purchases home. Here are some tips to help make your next outlet mall trip more fun.

Plan Ahead
Visit the websites before heading out to an outlet mall. Websites will help you make the most of your trip with center locations and store listings, as well as coupons and special offers. Some websites will also email you each month with exclusive store discounts, special offers and promotional events.

Make a List of Specific Items You Are Looking to Find
Some larger outlet centers feature more than 100 stores. Don't make the mistake of leaving without the one thing you came for in the first place. When shopping for other people, make a note of their sizes and favorite colors ahead of time.

Visit the Customer Service Center
Upon arrival, check in at the Customer Service Center or center office. Inquire about the availability of discount coupons, updated store information, and current sales and promotions in progress. Pick up a center brochure, which provides a map of the store locations.

Shop Smart - Avoid The Most Crowded Time of Day
Most outlet centers are open seven days a week. Maximize shopping time by going during the week when stores are less crowded. Also, shop early or late in the day to avoid possible mid-day heat.

The More The Merrier
Shopping with friends or family members is always more fun and can lead to a more efficient shopping trip. For instance, when one person is trying on clothes, the others can be getting additional items and acting as fashion consultants. It's always best to have someone you trust with you when trying on clothing. Also, if checkout lines are long, one can stay in line while the others scout out the next shop. You can also take advantage of multiple discounts when shopping as a pair. If a store has a two-for-one special, you and your friend can share the savings.

Dress for Comfort
Comfort is a key to having a fun-filled shopping experience. Wear your most comfortable shoes and clothing that is easy to get in and out of. Carry a lightweight handbag to lighten your load.

Return Policy
Before making your purchase, check the store's return policy. Contrary to popular belief, outlet stores now offer return policies similar to other retail establishments. Some will accept returns with no questions asked and offer cash refunds, while others will give store credit.

Utilize The Sales Help
Most outlet stores have very helpful sales associates who can point out sale items and help you find the items you want. They are also privy to information about anticipated new shipments, the store's best bargains, and special services, such as the ability to ship your purchases home.

Have Fun
Outlet shopping is meant to be fun. Enjoy the experience of buying and saving direct from the manufacturer on your favorite brand names and designer fashions.
